Communication is critical for any relationship and work especially, but at the right time. How many times has someone come up to you and started a conversation when you were in the middle of something, so your focus has not been fully on what they are saying. This goes both ways from employer to employee. So how do you change this? 1 to 1’s.

This is such an easy process; you allocated a time slot weekly or fortnightly to sit down to talk with your employees to discuss their

  • Objectives goals from their appraisals
  • Any assistance they need
  • Objectives for the next meeting
  • Training requirements
  • Any other items they wish to raise

The first meeting may take longer but after that it will become part of the working processes. This gives both parties a chance to raise concerns and discuss ways to improve processes. This also gives the employer a chance to acknowledge the work of the employee. Investors in People have discovered more employees leave due to lack of personal recognition from their manager and not just financial.
