Well September is well and truly here, despite me being in denial. Are you ready for the final push for the last few months of the year? It doesn’t matter if your financial year end is not December, we all look towards these months as the end of the year. So now is the time to start focussing your team for end of the year. September almost feels like new year but less depressing than January. Unfortunately, with the latest loss of the Queen it may not feel it this time.
So, what should you be doing?
Look at the objectives you set for your team and yourself this year. Take time out to assess where you think you are and then arrange a meeting with them individually to do the same.
Give them time before your meeting to go through the same exercise. Then ask them for an update on where they are with their objectives as well as what they need to do to achieve these before the end of the year.
Everyone feels better when they have reached their objectives and doing it before the agreed date, even better. You want them to be overachieving and not waiting until the madness of December to do the final push.
Work with them to create a weekly plan, what steps they will do each week to help reach their objectives. We can all feel overwhelmed when we see just the end objective, less time and have no idea where to start, so let’s help them break it down.
