What happens if an employee wants to cancel their holiday? Can they just do this?
The answer is no, they need the employer’s permission, and you are not obliged to agree to the request, unless you have a relevant agreement in place.
You may happily agree to accommodate their request but before you do this you need to take into consideration the needs of the business, then the employee’s personal circumstances.
As a business have already put plans in place to cover the employee’s work, extra cover arranged or turned down work. So, before you agree think of the impact of them cancelling their holiday.
Also remember if they are cancelling their holiday, they will need to take it at some point which may impact work, other employees or the business overall.
