No, they don’t people don’t join a business to stay static and stagnate – they join it to give it their best, learn and grow. So, make sure you’re giving them the opportunity to do just that. It’s great to provide training centred around their current role but you also need to think about training for their future career, putting them on workshops that will expand their skillset and allow them to move up the ladder.
As a small or medium business this is not easy, so you need to look outside of the box, as they say. You could have employees shadow each other over a period so they learn new skills. Look at the companies you work with, is there a chance for your employee to work with them on some projects and you offer the same to their employees. They could attend colleges, evening classes or Open University.
