These should be on a regular basis, you may wish to start them weekly and then decide how often you should meet up. Set up an agenda for both parties, document the meeting and the actions, follow it up with an email.
One to one’s give the employee time with their manager to discuss any issues or ideas. Often, we can all be busy and think it is a bad time to approach someone. As there is an allotted time and away from their computers, they are both focussed on the matter in hand. This also gives a chance for the manager to address any issues or concerns they may have too, as well as any good news or positive feedback they have.
