Personal Development…. the next steps

The HR Blog

So last week we looked at SMART Objectives, take time to review the blog until you are happy with it.  What next, you need to document these goals.

  1. Write it down

Committing an action to paper (or a digital to-do list) makes it more real. Your aims and plans become more concrete and tangible and you have a permanent reminder of what you are trying to achieve. An unticked checklist point will nag at you until you finish it.

Find what works for you, remember putting it in a drawer or saved on the system doesn’t work.  You can find all digital ways of reminders that can have an alarm to remind you.

Don’t just write down the end goal, put down the steps, you can then tick them off as you achieve them.  The quicker you are on your run, you can tick it off, the number of calls you have undertaken, the minutes you have written up and circulated, the on line course you have undertaken.  You know you are heading towards your main goal.

  1. Do what works for you

If you’ve done something in a certain way before and it helped you improve, then use that tactic again. It’s no good buying umpteen self-help books if you know that you respond better to learning through training courses.

Are you happy working with a coach, someone you are responsible to, a buddy so you openly commit, working with your Manager to achieve for the business.  Committing to someone makes it real and don’t choose someone who you know will let you slip from your focus by saying that it alright, another week.  The person you are committing to needs to understand why you have not achieved the next step, correct it and reset it.

Do you feel a coach or someone to commit to would help?  Give us a call on 07810 563 676 and we can work with you to achieve your goals.
