STOP! What should you do before advertising your vacancy and the interview?

The HR Blog

A job interview is a structured conversation with someone to establish whether they are likely to be able to do a job for you – and to find out if they want to do the job. Yes, you should be polite and try to make the candidates comfortable, but don’t forget that the purpose is to find out specific information and record the results.

STOP, what should you do before this?

Before you get to the interview stage, have you seriously thought about the ideal candidate you want in that role. An exercise to go through before you advertise the vacancy is role mapping. It is easier if the ideal person is still in the company so you can interview them if not then you have to look at the job description, for every item think of the best person in that role, how did they handle each task, what made them exceptional, what quality did they have. Also take into consideration a person who was not successful in that role, what did they do or didn’t do. This will help you with the questions for your interview and more importantly know the answers you want to hear.
We can help you through every step or just support you in the exercise, if you want to know more then contact us on enquiries@HRBusCons.co.uk
