We are in the middle of the summer holidays, so what do you need think about?

The HR Blog

We are in the middle of the summer holidays, and it is very hot, it is the part of the year that some employers dread, what their employees can wear to the office in the summer holidays, the office is quieter and maybe a bit relaxed due to this lovely sunshine.  For a lot of employees this isn’t an problem as they are based at home, but remember the Teams/Zoom calls, you still need to look professional.

Dress code is a difficult subject to tackle; the best thing is to tackle it though rather than leaving it to the employees to define. So it is best to provide guidelines. You need to consider what will suit your company based on your culture you have created or want to create, do the public have access to your premises, do have clients visiting offices, do you have air conditioning or rooms that do not get too hot employees, what would suit your employees based

You need to communicate with the employees about what you deem is suitable, if you agree on shorts you need to be specific on the length and style. If you say shorts, then they can range from just above the knee to Bermuda ones to training shorts to football shorts, so be specific.

Don’t forget to remind your employees that if they are going to visit a client they need to dress to their standards as well.

Lastly you want to ensure everyone is comfortable enjoying the summer weather but also that they are focused on working, just because the dress code is relaxed, doesn’t mean their work is too.

Don’t forget they should drink lots of water and if outdoors workers then to provide them with sun cream.
