What do you need to consider when doing an induction virtually?

The HR Blog

There is no difference doing it virtually or in person, other than you really need to plan ahead and deliver this before they start, including speaking to them to reassure them their role is still waiting for them to start.

So, take time to think in the new employees’ shoes and think what they need to know, the equipment they need to have provided by the company and in their homes.  Most employers already have an induction process, but it needs to be adapted for the new way to work from home.  Also remember they will not have any to turn to when they are stuck, they will not have any body sitting with them

Here is a list of things to consider

  • IT equipment
  • Buddy to contact
  • Access to all systems
  • Booked in training
  • First week plan – time with managers, explaining the culture and structure of how the teamwork.
  • Stationery
  • Mobile phone
  • Employee handbook
  • How to guide
  • One to one’s – so they meet the right people
  • Social Zoom call at the end of the week to meet the team/welcome party, maybe a quiz with break out rooms

Get creative and remember communication is so important with new employees.
