Well the temperature is dropping, nights drawing in, this means the onset of autumn and winter which could mean an increase in employees calling in sick or are they? According to CV-Library’s survey 67.5% of UK workers go into work when they are unwell, with 68.3% admitting that they feel guilty for taking sick days.
The report revealed that 86.5% of workers feel much less productive at work when they are unwell, with 84% of workers admitting that they believe they shouldn’t be going into work when they are sick. This is obviously not surprising news.
As a company you need to ensure that if an employee is not well then they shouldn’t be at work for their sake and their colleagues as well as the business. If they come to work and are clearly unwell then they should be encouraged to go home and get well, but not working from home.
When they return to work, they will be a lot happier, engaged and focussed on their work. This will promote a better culture within the company knowing that you are looking after their welfare.
Don’t forget to get them to complete a self certification form and for best practice ask them to attend a return to work interview. During this interview you can find out more and be able to support them more.
